Critteraid Charity Shoppe is moving!
Critteraid is MOVING ! The Summerland based animal sanctuary is moving their charity thrift shoppe from Main Street to 13208 N. Victoria Drive in Summerland on November 1st! This location is the old Penny Lane outlet store and has recently been purchased by Cynthia Kereluk and Paul Rodgers. Kereluk purchased the Main Street location in 2012 and offered the upstairs to Critteraid for their fundraising efforts. SASS continues to occupy the lower level of the building.
After an offer to another local charity to purchase the building fell through, Kereluk and Rodgers were then able to purchase the property with Critteraid in mind; to get them on street level in a bigger space. This will afford the 100% volunteer based charity the luxury of cleaning and sorting incoming donations instead of hauling them back and forth to the homes of volunteers. While the Critteraid Board of Directors and Volunteers are excited about the move, they will miss the Main Street shoppe with it's funky energy and it's creaky floorboards.
Deborah Silk, President of Critteraid notes, "The generosity of Cynthia and Paul is beyond imagination. Not only are the animals at Critteraid Farm benefiting from the sales at the Critteraid Charity Thrift Shoppe, but our Outreach Program has grown substantially helping people with their animals throughout the community. We are all so enormously grateful to these kind, caring and compassionate human beings for making this all possible." Silk added that Critteraid is one of several animal charities that Kereluk/Rodgers supports and animal organizations locally and throughout the world have benefited from the kindness of these two philanthropists.
Anyone with nothing to do on Friday, November 1st, starting at 9:00 am, can come down to the old shoppe and grab a box to take to the new shoppe, down the stairs, along the alley and across the road. If you can let Critteraid know you are coming to help, call Deborah Silk at 250.809.7152 so that they can make sure there's enough lunch and dinner for everyone. The move is a short jaunt but nevertheless, all the goodies in house have to be lugged down and over. Volunteers will have the new store open starting at 11am on November 1st for shoppers and will appreciate the patience of all the customers during this busy time.
