CDART presents Pet Oxygen Masks to Penticton firefighters

June 8, 2016 - CDART Central BC donated six pet oxygen masks to the Penticton fire department. These masks are in several sizes and shapes, and fit a variety of animal species.

CDART presenting at LIBOA conference in Vernon, BC

May 20 - 2016 - CDART is presenting at the LIBOA (Licence Inspector's and Bylaw Officer's Association) BC conference taking place in Vernon next month.   

The topic is Animal Disaster Management Overview. It covers the 4 pillars of disaster management: mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery. It provides information on the history, and how a region can build their own team.

CDART will also have a booth presence during the conference weekend.

May 4, 2016 - We have offered the assistance of our Mobile Support Team to the Emergency Services in Alberta responding to the Fort McMurray situation. CDART is unable to deploy unless requested by the responding authority. PLEASE DO NOT SELF DEPLOY.

September 7, 2015 - CDART's National Coordinator, Cheryl Rogers, is presenting at the Emergency Preparedness + Business Continuity Conference in Vancouver, BC taking place November 17-19, 2015.

Emergency Preparedness + Business Continuity Conference

Cheryl's presentation on November 17th will cover the four pillars of emergency management planning: mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Attendees will leave with basic tools both to manage personal and business preparedness and to launch animal disaster preparedness initiatives in their communities. Handout materials will include copies of the presentation, forms to use for animal response, qualities and skills preferred for animal responders and CDART contact information.

CDART Okanagan is set up at the reception centre at Westbank Lions Community Hall in West Kelowna. We are available to assist evacuees with their pets. If anyone needs immediate assistance evacuating their animals, they can contact us at 250-809-7152.

La Ronge Saskatchewan Wildfire

July 09, 2015 - CDART reached out to Northern Animal Rescue Humane Society to offer support to the effort to help animals from evacuated communities in northern Saskatchewan. Our national coordinator received a phone call this morning and discussed the situation. Read more...

A Woman of Substance

November 3, 2014 - Mary Trim, CDART South West Assistant Coordinator, died on October 8th, 2014, after having been recently diagnosed with cancer. She leaves behind two brothers and their families and a most beautiful Paint horse, named Tobi. As well, she leaves behind a myriad of friends, team mates, colleagues and acquaintances, all of whom were better having known her. Read more

July 21, 2014 - While CDART Okanagan was responding in West Kelowna...

CDART National:

  • Was in touch with EMBC (Emergency Management British Columbia) regarding mobile support to Hudson's Hope. Fortunately, it was not needed.
  • Have been in contact with TNRD (Thompson Nicola Regional District) regarding the fire in Lytton. So far, we have not been asked to deploy. We were advised that animals were being sheltered in place, and that the owners, accompanied by RCMP, were performing maintenance.

 

Smith Creek Wildfire - July 17, 2014

July 21, 2014 - We are available at 250-470-0694 to assist any remaining evacuees requiring assistance with their pets, and to arrange for residents newly allowed back home to pick up their pets fostered with us.

Reunification:
At 11:15am and 5:00pm yesterday, and 11:55am today, announcements were made so most evacuees were allowed to return to their homes. We have reunited most evacuated animals with their families. This is our favourite time!

July 19, 2014 - To those who have been asking re: donations, we would gratefully accept gas cards, to cover what we are using for our trips in and out of the evacuated areas. They can be dropped off to CDART in the reception centre at the address above.

UPDATE: She has been FOUND! A lost dog has been reported to us. We are looking for a female Westie wearing a black collar with paw prints, a little purple vest, and a pink leash. Witnesses saw a dog matching this description picked up by a red Volkswagen beetle with a handicapped sticker displayed. Please contact CDART at the EOC, 250-470-0694 if you have or know the whereabouts of this dog, so CDART can reunite her with the owner. $500 reward offered

Guinea Pigs Need Good Homes

August 26, 2010 - When the CDART volunteers did their risk assessment visit to CrocTalk in Kelowna in August 2010, they were surprised to see an abundance of bunnies and guinea pigs on the property. Business owner, Doug Illman, advised that they had been dropped off by someone with good intentions to be used as food for the crocodiles. Doug was not able to feed them to Lucy, Abby and Lucky - the resident crocs.

So, being rabbits and guinea pigs, they soon started to multiply.  Read more...
